DOCUMENTARY—CINEMA HEARTS, IN STUDIO
MARCH 2022
CAROLINE WEINROTH: MUSICIAN (CINEMA HEARTS) | WOLE AJAGBE: Producer, PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHER
A special project documenting Caroline of Cinema Hearts as she captured bespoke tracks from her repertoire and pressed them directly to vinyl. Caroline's sound and aesthetic is inspired by the golden age of rock and roll, which fit well with the vintage setup of the Brooklyn studio. To match the analogue nature of the project, this session was primarily captured on 35mm rolls of Kodak Tri-X 400 and Cinestill 50D . To bring this project to life for a broader audience, video was also captured via DSLR at 60 and 24fps and processed in post to match the look and feel of the black and white stills.
-
Document a musician in session at a recording studio to create an intimate, behind-the-scenes portrait and add value to the final product.
-
All photos captured were on film to match the fully analog recording process in which each take was written directly to vinyl. Most images were captured on Kodak Tri-X 400 a reputable black and white film stock which gave each image a vintage feel. The remaining images were captured in color on Cinestill 50D.
To capture more of the visceral, in-person experience, video was captured on DSLR and treated to match the tones of the Tri-X 400 scans.

Woven together, these images and video tell a story of a deeply personal project for this artist. The resulting film was edited for Tik Tok and Instagram primarily and are intended for Caroline to use in future campaigns.
